We had such a good time! For those of you who do not know Hanson teaches a private workshop at least once a year (this year twice). We invite only 12 students to Hanson’s studio in San Francisco and we have 3 and a half days of lighting, posing, laughing, and learning. This one was a very good group and it worked out to be many people that I have met before, which was fun. It was three and a half days of mind boggling understanding of what could be possible in our own photography (I played student too, of course, as much as I could. Seriously I learn something different every time I listen to Hanson teach and it’s fun in a small group. I may have even asked a question from the back of the room).

Everyone came from all over California except for Juan who gets the prize for the farthest traveled from oh way over there in texas :) just kidding...but he did have to fly.

So yes we had Juan Carlos Garza who is actually doing a lot of our retouching after he saw Hanson teaching in Texas and gave me a call. This was the first time we had seen each other in person and it’s always good to put a face to a name. If anyone needs retouching I got a good guy :) his email address is juancgarza@yahoo.com.

Burton Kendall www.kendallkinetics.com joined us for the second time here in San Francisco and we again enjoyed his company.

Byron Sands www.byronsands.com or www.hallsteadgallery.com. Check out his blog, he talked about the class before I did :)

Jack Tarasiuk, and Kristi Chesley also came as first time students of Hanson as well as Phil Albers who is my brother in law and who I got to model with my twin sister and their two kids for the “family grouping” section of the class.

Robin Swanson www.rswansonphotography.com car pooled with Kristi, They do a lot of work together and really are two great women to work with.

Heather McCullah www.oneshotbeyond.com brought her sister Stephanie Fincher up from Southern California who is Heather’s assistant at weddings :) I met Heather at WPPI last year and we have managed to keep in touch between photography, kids, ...and life :)

We did really have a great time. We did a couple new things such as went to the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and had the students work in groups with a bride and groom model (hence the three brides in the class picture). We also had a family group mom, dad, and two children which was new for this workshop. It was great to try a new schedule and we are already thinking of ways to make it even better for next April.

Write again later...

Hanson demonstrates how to use a reflector correctly while Jack takes the portrait of Phil. San Francisco’s famous TRANSAMERICA building is in the background or as my son calls it, “My Castle”

I finally got a new picture. Hanson was bugging me about the last one but I told him that  it was just on the computer camera and hint hint I needed someone to take a better one...but someone is never in the studio. Juan actually took this picture and to give Hanson credit he did take some awesome pictures of my husband and I... FINALLY ;)
